What are the main charecters in Bye Bye Birdie and which one would I be good as?!?

Over the summer I am auditoning for the play Bye Bye Birdie. I am a soprano and an alto but mostly up there in the sopranos. I have brown hair and brown eyes (as in my avatar). And people have told me I have a great voice….

The main female characters in Birdie are Kim and Rosie. If you are as young as I suspect, Kim is the more appropriate character, as she is a teenager. Rosie should be older, in her late twenties/early thirties, as she has been Albert’s long-suffering girlfriend who hopes to get married some day. Of course it also depends on the company producing the show. If it’s a youth theatre, then you might be okay for Rosie.

Albert’s mother is an older character role, but she steals the show from the minute she shows up if she’s played well. Again, probably too old a character for you, but if it’s an all-youth production and you have a flair for comedy, this may be the part. She doesn’t sing much.

Ah..i remember when i did Bye Bye Birdie back in the day..lol. It’s a great musical, i’d suggest trying out for the main character Kim MacAfee – she’s sweet, naive and just starting to understand her physicality as a young woman. I believe her part is a soprano, and there are some really great songs to sing such as "How Lovely to Be a Woman" and "A Lot of Living’ to do" (great song!)

Here’s the libretto, check it out to familiarize yourself with the script: http://libretto.musicals.ru/text.php?textid=54&language=1

Check out "How Lovely to Be a Woman" here and see if you think the part would suit you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrwsUx8JmPg
    Good Luck!!

Don’t forget the role of Ursula too! She’s Kim’s best friend and while she doesn’t do much singing, it’s a great part!! You can really have a lot of fun with it…
