Do you think we should bring back the stoning of adulterers?

I mean, if we’re going to be a christian nation, we may as well go all the way.

Maybe we should Hester-Prynne them instead of stoning. A blazing red "A" on one’s chest is always an eye-catcher (and a bit difficult to accessorize).

    Absolutely. I hate cheaters.
And we should kill ill-mannered and misbehaving children too. Isn’t that in the bible also?

Well, statistics say that over 50% of the people in this nation have gotten stoned already- so we’ve got a good start!

    Hah no.

We should try not to get emotional about it – for example; you could ask someone "Have you committed adultery" and these days the other person would almost certainly lie.

However, if we were to be logical about this, then having such a question asked of us at some point of our lives is more or less inevitable (hell, even president clinton was accused of it).

The idea that adulterers should be stoned, will do nothing to deal with the problem.

I suggest consideration instead of condemnation.

Why is this question in the Gay/Lesbian/Bi section? This sounds more like a religious question.

To answer it: stoning people for cheating was done under the Mosaic Law of the Old Testament. Under the New Testament, which is the basis for Christianity, stoning wasn’t condoned or commanded anymore.

Oh definitely…don’t forget the part about not standing next to a woman during her "menstrual uncleanliness" either : )

To be stoned, today, has a whole different meaning.

Christianity is f*cked up, and should not be imposed on society under any circumstances.

My question would be along the line of:

Why are the "rules/laws" that some Xians choose to follow more "valid/right" than the ones I follow?

Well, we’re not going to be, nor ever have been a Christian nation, and the particularly brutal form of killing known as stoning maybe should be reserved for someone who deserves it, like traitors who try to overthrow the Constitution of the United States.

    Just my two cetns.

    Definitely not.

I mean, you or i might hate adultery… but you must remember other people have different values to you. Many don’t believe it’s bad. They have a different set of values, no less wrong than our own.

Each person gets a short time to live on this planet, during that time he shows God his heart condition. I think adultery is not only cruel to ones mate but greedy to the max about sex.
Would that person be remembered by God? Should be the ultimate question. HOw we live our lives pretty much determines weather we are resurrected to live again. So I think that adultery or homosexuality should be ignored by us and the question should be turned over to God since he is the one who judges and brings back those he wants to. We are just pawns and how we feel or what we do is not really that important.
But do I think they will be resurrected? No!

In general, for society and whatever the country and religion is, I say yes, bring it back. Not only for adultery but also for many other crimes which deserve a harsh punishment.

This is a nation of whores. Everyone thinks it’s okay to have sex before marriage so why is it suddenly a big deal after marriage. If there is no sanctity for sex, there is none for marriage. I don’t think there’d be anyone left alive if we instituted the laws of ancient Israel here!

(PS there’s nothing in the New Testament about stoning anyone for breaking God’s law – only God can punish anyone for violating His moral laws, which is why no one has the right to push their unbiblical anti-gay religious opinions on others).
